Coaching Selection Policy
Coaching roles are seasonal and reviewed at the start of each season. The PYSA board ensures that all coaches meet CORI/Safe Soccer requirements and comply with Code of Conduct and Zero Tolerance policies.
Returning head coaches have first right of refusal if coaching the same age group and gender. If multiple returning coaches qualify but there are fewer teams, the most qualified coach will be selected as head coach. Other returning coaches may serve as assistants.
Factors considered include:
- Ability to work with children
- Coaching experience
- Coaching certifications or licenses
- Contributions to the league and PYSA
- Commitment to the PYSA club (especially for Division 1 teams)
When no head coach returns for an age group, PYSA looks to coaches moving up from younger age groups. If multiple candidates move up, the same evaluation process applies. If there are no eligible returning coaches, PYSA reviews volunteer applications based on:
- Prior PYSA experience
- Coaching in other leagues (e.g., high school, other towns)
- General coaching background
- Relevant licenses or certifications
- Involvement in the league and preference for PYSA in Division 1
Coaches interested in Grades 5โ8 tryout programs must submit a resume outlining youth soccer coaching experience.
Adult Registration Requirements
All coaches must maintain current registrations and certifications through MYSA, including:
- CORI clearance
- Safe Soccer certification
- CDC concussion training
Visit the Massachusetts Youth Soccer adult registration page
Coaches Meeting
PYSA will hold a mandatory coaches meeting 1โ2 weeks before the start of each season. Attendance is required, as team rosters and equipment will be distributed at this time.
- Spring Season: Typically begins the first week of April
- Fall Season: Typically begins the first week of September
Once you receive your roster, please reach out to your families as soon as possible to introduce yourself and share season details.
Practice Field Requests
All coaches must submit a practice field request once per season. Submit your request as soon as you receive your roster or after the coachesโ meeting.
Email requests to:
practicefields@plymouthyouthsoccer.com.
Allow 48 hours after submission before following up.
Rescheduling Games
- In-Town Games: If an in-town game needs to be rescheduled, it will be moved to the following Sunday unless other arrangements are approved in advance. To request changes, email practicefields@plymouthyouthsoccer.com.
- Coastal Games: Rescheduling Coastal games must follow CYSL policies and procedures. Coaches and team managers should review the
CYSL Game Rules (PDF) to ensure compliance.
